How to choose a robot vacuum for large homes

Large homes expose the weak points of a robot vacuum quickly. Before focusing on feature marketing, start with mapping reliability, dock convenience, and the amount of manual upkeep you are willing to accept each week.

Start with layout, not hype

In a larger home, room count, thresholds, rugs, furniture spacing, and where dirt builds up matter more than a long feature list. A robot that looks impressive on paper can still become annoying if its navigation does not fit the space or if you need to rescue it too often during ordinary cleaning.

What matters most

Three questions to answer before you buy

01

Will one clean cover your real floor area?

Focus on whether the robot can map, schedule, and finish the rooms you care about without becoming a daily management task.

02

How much dock automation do you actually need?

Larger homes create more dust, hair, and mopping residue. A better dock can reduce daily friction if you expect frequent use.

03

Does the floor mix justify a premium model?

Mixed hard floors and carpets often make advanced mop lifting and room-based controls more useful than in simpler homes.
